Taboo Tales Newsletter – Breaking It Down

In the whole three days since we decided to launch Taboo Tales Blog (wow, has it only been three days now?!), we’ve had a lot of interest, and a lot of questions about our goals, what we see in our future, what we hope to accomplish in the long-term. Today, let’s break it down.

I am a lifelong lover of books. I’ve been writing for more than three decades now, deciding twelve years ago to create my own publishing house. Over those twelve years, I have mentored many, many authors. I’ve launched a graphic art company, I’ve signed on a few new authors with a publishing house that was only meant to publish my own works, and I continue to work a full-time job managing multi-million dollar projects for one of the largest tech resellers in the country. During this time, two things have remained with me – my love for helping other authors, and my love for writing erotica.

As an author, I understand how tough it can be to get your foot in the door, especially when you write erotic novels. While there are services available for authors such a Bookbub, Bargainbooksy, and many others, there are very, very few who are geared toward showcasing, promoting, and marketing erotica. Despite the huge success of 50 Shades, there is still this huge stigmata surrounding those who enjoy reading and writing erotica. I wanted to change that.

What We Are:

Taboo Tales, for now, is a monthly newsletter filled with book recommendations centered around the erotic genre. This doesn’t mean the books are strictly smut, although we are not opposed to that 😉 We cater to all forms of erotic literature, everything from contemporary romance with smokin’ sex scenes to taboo erotica. Our goal is to have a unique newsletter showcasing a wide assortment of steamy reads so everyone who joins our newsletter is bound to find at least one awesome adventure they can’t wait to embark on.

For readers, this means finding a new book boyfriend. For authors, this means a safe place to market and promote your erotica to readers who are eager to get their hands on it.

What We Are Not:

We’ve been asked “Is this like Bookbub or Bargainbooksy?” The answer to this question is not easy. I have never once applied for any of these services because, quite frankly, I’ve not only heard mixed reviews about their success, I’ve never been able to afford the price tag. While it’s great they are casting a wide net to draw in more readers and authors, I feel it puts erotic writers at a huge disadvantage. Again, despite the success of some erotic romance novels, authors are still hesitant to tell others they write it and readers are still not telling others they enjoy reading it.

I simply saw a need that needed to be filled and decided to fill it. I can’t say we are or are not like other book promotional services. To put it simply, we have a growing subscriber list who signed up knowing they were going to get erotic book recommendations. This means we now have a budding new community filled with readers who are eager to find their next steamy read and authors who are more than happy to point them to their latest book. It’s a win-win situation as far as we are concerned.

What The Future Holds:

We started Taboo Tales Blog with the sole intent of building up a subscriber list of hundreds (hopefully thousands in the coming months) of readers who are eager to find their next hot adventure. With that, we wanted to offer an opportunity to erotic authors to put their books in front of readers who welcomed the promotions. We certainly have plans to broaden our offerings to our authors for additional promotional opportunities, but one step at a time. For now, we are spending all of our time building up our reader subscriber base for the newsletter to ensure the authors who take a chance with promoting through us (for FREE) will find new fans and readers for their novels.
